This class will explore how religious Americans have thought about freedom. From debates about predestination and free will to current controversies over mask and vaccine mandates, religious Americans have celebrated, argued over, and demanded “freedom.” We will consider the many—and possibly contradictory ways—people have used the term and what that might mean for many of our current divides and debates.
