Several road and bridge projects have taken place in the St. Peter area in the past few years, and more are slated for the coming years. In 2009, major renovation of downtown St. Peter took place as underground utilities were upgraded, new roadway and sidewalks were installed, and raised medians, along with decorative fencing, were added for beautification. In 2014, major work took place along Highway 169 between St. Peter and Le Sueur to raise the roadway to make it less susceptible to flooding, while resurfacing and bringing safety improvements. From July to October 2015, a small stretch of Highway 22 at the south end of St. Peter closed so the roadway could be raised, and a land bridge installed, in the area of the river bridge so it can stay open longer at times floodwaters creep up. In 2016, the closing of Highway 169 between St. Peter and Mankato for virtually the entire construction season raised the roadway so it can stay open longer during times of flooding. In 2017, major work will take place on the "fracture critical" Highway 99 East bridge in order to strengthen its structure. Watch this page for updates on closures and detours.
